» Nursing Home Services
A nursing home is not a hospital and does not provide the acute care you would get in a hospital. Typically, nursing homes provide the following two types of care:
• Basic care – The basic services required for daily living and physical, social, and mental well-being.
o Personal care
o Ambulation
o Supervision
o Safety
• Skilled care – Services that require a registered nurse to administer on a regular basis.
o Physical therapy
o Occupational therapy
o Respiratory therapy
o Restorative therapy
The services offered by nursing homes vary from one facility to another. The typical services offered include:
• Room and board for residents.
• Personal care such as bathing, dressing, and bathroom assistance.
• Assistance in taking medications.
• 24 hour emergency care for residents.
• Recreational activities for residents in a social atmosphere.
