The future of medical transcription is debatable. The need for accurate medical records—neat and thorough records instead of Illegible handwriting-- is ever-growing. Malpractice concerns keep physicians eager to have excellent records of their patients’ healthcare in their charts. On the other hand, technology could make the field “die” in the similar way computers have brought an “end” to typewriters. Language dictation software is available now that takes the recorded dictation and creates a text—without the use of a transcriptionist. Presently, there is a low-percentage of error with such programs and therefore, editing is necessary. Therefore, transcriptionists are needed to help “tidy-up” such documents.
