One of the great benefits of iTunes, in my opinion, is the ability to import your own CDs. And it's so easy to do. Simply insert a CD into your computer's CD drive. If you have iTunes open, in a few seconds, the CD will pop up in the left column, under Library, Podcasts, etc. You'll see a CD icon and usually the name of the CD. Some CDs do not have the title and artist information filled in. You'll need this information so that you can see what songs are in your library. (If you don't have the CD information, the songs will just show up as Track 1, Track 2, etc., with no artist or album listed. This can make finding songs a pain.)
If your CD doesn't show any information, never fear. You can fill it in. Just right click on the CD icon and select "Get Info". This will allow you to fill in the name of the artist, title of the album, year it was published, genre of music, and more. You'll still have to name each song, though. To do this, click twice on the track name (Track 1, Track 2, etc.). Do not double click, as this will just start the song playing! Just left click twice slowly and you can fill in the song title.
What's really great about importing your CDs is that you can choose which songs to import. For instance, if there are only two or three songs you like on a particular CD, you can just click the box to check those songs to upload. When you first insert the CD, all of the songs will be checked. You can see this in the little check-mark box to the left of the song title. All you have to do is un-check the songs you don't want to import. Or if you want to import the whole CD, just leave all of the songs checked. When you're ready, click "Import CD" in the upper right-hand corner. Your songs will immediately begin importing. Be patient, this takes a little while. As they finish importing, the songs go into your library. This whole process also works for audio books on CD.
