If you can make an investment in yourself and the work you have created, then self-publishing might just be for you. There are a number of advantages to publishing your works yourself. Among them are the following:

• You have control over your book.
• You are not limited to a percentage of the royalty of the book. The business of self-publishing actually enjoys large margin profits.
• The overhead costs are low, and the business can be managed with few or no employees.
• Becoming a self-publisher and owning your own company provides you with a tax shelter. You are allowed to deduct a portion of your home, and some of the expenses incurred in self-publishing, on your taxes.
• As a self-publisher, you have control over all the decisions made regarding your book. You write the words, you control the illustrations and cover design, and choose the type of binding you prefer.
• You decide how long to keep your book on the market and how long to continue promoting the book. Publishing firms generally give a book three to six months to become a success. Self-publishers typically give their works up to three years to become a success.
