The main attractions in the Falkland Islands are outdoor activities. Tourists come here to watch wildlife, fish, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Walking

Walking across the country or trekking along the coast is very popular. You can walk from Seal Bay to Volunteer Point which will take you along beaches and rocky cliffs to see a plethora of wildlife. You can also ride horseback if you prefer.

Fishing

Many tourists also come here for the excellent fishing. You can fish among spectacular scenery and amazing wildlife while relaxing in the warm hospitality of the friendly locals.

Game fishing here has developed quite recently. Salmo trutta was introduced to the Falkland rivers less than 50 years ago and this fast-growing migratory fish is now established itself to provide some of the best sea trout fishing available. Trout season runs from September to April.

Where to fish:

Warrah (West Falkland) – Here you will stay in the comfortable lodge at Port Howard settlement. Your guide will take you to the river which winds its way through some wonderful scenery. You can fish at the river’s tributary, Green Hill Stream, or travel to Many Branch Creek in the north.

Chartres (West Falkland) – You can travel here from the Port Howard settlement as it is 1.5 hours away. Little Chartres farm is the starting point.

San Carlos River (East Falkland) – You can travel to this river from Stanley (2 hours away) or from Port San Carlos (20 minutes away). Although night fishing is not common in the Falklands, conditions are perfect on this river for it.

Murrell (East Falkland) – This river is only 20 minutes from Stanley and was one of the first rivers stocked.

Windsurfing

If you are an experienced windsurfer, try some of the spots around Stanley Harbor. The winds are very strong here and if you aren’t experienced, you can be blown out to see. If you like to scuba dive, here you can explore sunken ships in the harbor as well.
