Joseph Pilates the founder of the Pilates exercise method introduced the unique exercise technique in New York City during the 1920’s. Originally used by dancers to recover from injuries and improve their dancing skills. Pilates is both a mind and body exercise that focuses on improving flexibility and strength without adding bulk to a body. The Pilates methods used today are structured around the principles developed by Joseph Pilates. A low impact exercise method, Pilates uses a body’s core muscles which include: the abdomen, diaphragm, and the pelvic floor. Attention to detail and form while working the entire body together is one of the basic fundamentials of Pilates.
