Before you go out to buy boxing equipment, you should know a thing or two about each piece so you can make the wisest choice possible regarding what to buy for yourself. Remember, your comfort and safety is the most important aspect to any sport you engage in. Make sure you get approval from your doctor before engaging in any sport.
· Hand Wraps: If you are looking to protect yourself in the ring, especially your hands, you better consider hand wraps. The one thing to consider is this: your fingers must be separated to allow freedom of movement.
· Boxing Gloves: When you are in the ring, you need all the protection you can get. Correctly fitted gloves are no exception. The gloves should be snug on your hands but comfortable enough to wear without restriction of blood flow and cramps. The long laces should be securely tied, with the extra length of lacing wrapped around your wrist before being tied down. Don’t forget to cut off the metal lace tips. So make sure the gloves you purchase fit these requirements.
· Mouthpiece: Don’t settle for a cheap mouthpiece here. The mouthpiece must fit correctly in your mouth. Otherwise, you are heading for trouble and no teeth.
· Boxing Shoes: When looking for a good pair of boxing shoes, don’t get sneakers. Boxing shoes are lighter; leather soled and provides the proper ankle support. If you box in sneakers you find yourself in trouble, because sneakers don’t allow you to move around in the ring properly. Plus you stand a greater risk of ankle injuries.
