What is Application Server Software Used For?

This is kind of an interesting question in that there are many different uses for application server software. The one thing to take notice about is the fact that the application server market is hot and every computer company is trying to develop software to work on this type of server. Why? Well considering that the application server is the main or central place where most software applications reside, especially in a Web-based environment; this is why they are looked at with importance. By using an application server, all applications that are used by the company could be stored so as to centralize everything within the company. With also makes it easier to access applications over the Internet or an intranet. By having server software installed, you are basically providing a way for applications to run and to access data on the server.

 

Most of the applications that are being developed are considered Web-based since that is the way of business today and in the future. Most if not all transactions and documentation is being delivered by way of the intranet and Internet. Most of the companies that are developing these Web-based applications and server software include Sybase, Oracle, IBM, Sun, and Microsoft.
