If you fancy a change then many restaurants and cafes throughout the country offer something different and within many hotel restaurants such as the Elephantine Island resort, you can try the traditional Egyptian breakfast which is a type of bean stew and it never fails to fill one up.

If this is not your sort of thing, restaurants always offer an alternative and this tends to be a typical continental breakfast if the stew doesn’t sound like your sort of thing but it is recommended you try it once.

• The Cairo Tower – If you want to experience a view of the great city then make sure to climb the Cairo tower. The tower which is 45 meters taller than the Great Pyramid at Giza and at a total length of 187 meters it is the fourth largest tower in the world. This great attraction opens from 9am until 1am the following day and it has been said that the best time to see Cairo in its full splendour is at sunset when the lights of the city begin to add a natural glow. No matter which direction you look, to the west you will see the great pyramids and towards the east you will have views of the Muqattam hills, immediately below the tower you will see the Nile River which flows calmly. Once you reach the top of the tower, it is important to remember that you will need to pay for tickets to take photographs of the views from the tower and this can work out to be quite expensive but the views make up for it.

After descending some of the tower why not stop off at the rotating restaurant before starting an afternoon of sightseeing so whilst dining you can be reminded of the great views over Cairo.

• If you have the time after a filling lunch then the Egyptian Museum in Cairo is full of historic wonders and with over 120,000 exhibits from the past, the whole family can learn something. The attractions in the museum range from tombs of reigning pharaohs that lived thousands of years ago and artefacts such as jewellery and pottery that are on show to help you imagine how pharaohs like Tutankhamon lived. Located on three floors of pure Egyptian history, when you visit, it is an amazing sight and you will definitely enjoy yourself. Entry for adults if 20 L.E. an 10 L.E. for children, if you are brave enough to enter the Mummies room’s then the cost will vary between 1 – 40 L.E. for adults and 2 – 20 L.E. for children. Photographs are allowed of certain exhibits but you will be charged for every image that is taken during your visit and it can work out quite expensive.

After a day of sightseeing, why not settle down and enjoy a nice pleasant meal in one of the many restaurants scattered round the local area. If you like fish then you are in luck because there are many restaurants in the country that offer excellent fish meals and most of it is caught fresh in the Red Sea. The Samakmak is one restaurant that is a great place for major fish lovers to visit. It offers a relaxing yet pleasant atmosphere and the fish is so fresh that upon your arrival, you get to make a selection from the large counter and it is then cooked to your liking.

There is no better way to eat fish and this is mixed with great Middle Eastern salads, rice and pasta accompany every meal. Samakmak is open from 10am to 5am daily but you need to remember that no credit cards are accepted and whilst prices are said to be quite high, it is important to remember that most seafood in the area comes at a price but with an excellent service, the cost won’t prove too much of an issue because overall, it is still a lot cheaper than other restaurants in the area and you can guarantee the fish is definitely fresh.

You can find the restaurant at 92 Ahmed Orabi Street and I can guarantee this is a new way of dining that will knock your socks off. Reservations are not necessary but it is a popular restaurant so whether you are going for a lunchtime or evening meal, I would always arrive as early as possible because whilst the staff will try their hardest to get a table for you, it may not always be possible.
