No trip can be started without a reasonable breakfast and therefore it is important to eat something before you head off. You won’t have to go far for a first class breakfast because within the resort, there are four cafes and/or restaurants in which breakfast is available from 7am and they serve meals right up into the evening.

Each one is tastefully decorated and every restaurant has something different to offer so whether you would prefer a French or continental breakfast, the choice would be up to you.

• After a warming breakfast then it is time to do something really interesting. The Nubian Museum in Awan, located close to the Nile River so it would only be minutes away from the Island resort that you are staying in. The museum bears the name “Land of Gold” as the word Nubia in the ancient Hieroglyphic languages means the “Land of Gold” hence the name as the area was once a rich land with many treasures. The Nubians resided in the Nile Valley area and as a result the museum homes many of the ancient artefacts that have been uncovered over the last few centuries and with a large number of arts and crafts available, this will prove to be a very interesting exhibit. The museum will feel like you are going through time because it will tell you have the ancient Nubians once lived and with their very interesting culture, it will help you learn how some of the first residents to the area lived and worked. The museum is based over three floors and with over 3,000 different monuments available to see including a model of a typical Nubian style house, you will be surprised how real to life all those centuries ago, the permanent exhibition is. The opening times do vary depending on the time of year but the museum opens at 9am daily.

After learning about the Nubian history, you may have worked up an appetite and have decided it is time to try one of the local restaurants. If you would like to have one of the best dining experiences ever then one restaurant that comes highly recommended and offers the widest range of traditional cuisine is the Felfela’s Restaurant in Cairo.

Located near the Giza Pyramids’ this may not be for everyone and it does sometimes run on a set menu but it does have a range of traditional cuisine such as Mango juice to drink, Arabic bread, Babaganoush, Falafel and many other types of rice, pastas and pizzas.

Prices are excellent and are usually less than $10 but for the money and the portions, you certainly wouldn’t complain. Reservations aren’t needed and if you do decide to visit, you can find the restaurant at 27 Cairo Alexandria Road, Cairo but be sure to arrive as early as possible because the restaurant does fill up quickly.

If you would prefer somewhere different and with a wider range of ethnic cuisine on the menu then you must try the Italian/French styling of Le Champollion. The restaurant is open nightly from 7.30pm – 11.30pm and you can dine in the well designed private dining room with a view of the Nile. You will sample some of the tastiest and most classic French cuisine in the area and it is guaranteed an excellent and professional service will be received.

The menu is vast but the beef filet with white bean soup comes highly recommended. Meals can be on the more expensive side but a great atmosphere and dining experience is certain, a smart yet casual appearance will be necessary when dining in the restaurant.
