Quito, with a population of nearly 2 million, is the capital of Ecuador. It is located in the province of Pichincha. Quito is located in the northern sierra region of Ecuador, just north of another major province, Cotopaxi. With its elevation of 9,300 feet above sea level, Quito is the second highest capital city in the entire world. Quito is the second most populous city in Ecuador.

Northern Quito is the home of the city’s business district, along with upscale housing and neighborhoods. The international airport and many of the city’s outstanding recreational opportunities are also in the northern part of the city.

The Museo del Banco Central is a beautiful display of native Ecuadorian art and history. It is the most well known tourist attraction in Quito. There are a number of beautiful parks in Quito, including Parque Metropolitano, La Carolina, El Ejido, and La Alameda.

El Panecillo is a hill in the middle of the city that is about 10,000 feet above sea level. There is a monument to the virgin Mary at the peak of this hill, “La Virgen del Panecillo,” which is visible from most of the city of Quito.
