» How to Test the Cymbal at the Store
Since the sound of the cymbal is important to musicians, especially drummers, it is advisable to learn the right way to test cymbals so you get the correct sound from them. This way you won’t be stirred in the wrong direction with them. Here are some ways to properly test a cymbal:
· When you are about to test the cymbal consider how you will be playing the cymbal.
· When you test the cymbal, play it like as if you were playing it live somewhere. Just tapping on it won’t work. You need to see how it will perform for you.
· Another way to test the cymbal at the store is to do it under normal conditions. Give it a trail run to see how it holds up. Does it sound the way you want it?
· When you go to the store to look at cymbals, maybe you can bring yours with you so you can act like you are playing in a band. This will really test the cymbal.
· Another thing you can do is have the salesperson play the cymbal while you walk around the store. Listen carefully to the sound it makes. Is the sound too loud? Is it too soft?
· Instead of using the drumsticks from the store, bring your own so you can get a better feel for striking the cymbal.
· Don’t be pressured into taking the cymbal. If it doesn’t produce the desired music or sound, go for a cymbal that is thicker.
