There are certain environments, such as those that are tight and moist or irritating to the vagina, that can greatly encourage the growth of yeast and thus promote yeast infections. By following a few careful guidelines, unnecessary yeast infections can be avoided.

·        Always dry off completely and thoroughly after showering, swimming, or being in any other wet condition.
·        Change out of a wet swim suit as soon as possible.
·        Wear cotton underwear and light, loose clothing rather than things that are tight or made of synthetic materials.
·        After using the restroom, wipe from the front to the back.
·        Change pads, tampons, and diapers frequently.
·        Unless instructed otherwise by a doctor, avoid douching.
·        Use unscented pads, tampons, panty liners, and toilet paper.
·        Avoid using products that will irritate the vagina like feminine sprays and bubble bath.
·        Lower your sugar intake.
·        Eat yogurt which contains live lactobacilius acidophilis cultures.

Basically, anything that promotes a moist atmosphere for yeast to grow in, any products that irritate the vagina, or the intake of food that speeds the growth of yeast should be avoided in order to prevent yeast infections.
