Motocross helmets come with several features to choose from. You can choose the color scheme of your helmet. Generally, most riders will choose a helmet that matches their motocross vehicle. Once a color scheme has been chosen, the style of graphic must then be chosen. Graphics come in many styles from conservative to radical. If you think you may be changing motocross vehicles, or have multiple vehicles with different color schemes you may want to consider neutral colors that will match any motocross vehicle you ride.
Most importantly, helmets have different ventilation systems/ports. The more vents that a given helmet has, the more options you will have to increase your riding comfort. Helmets can become very hot during the summer, so the more vents a helmet possesses, the more you can customize your level of comfort. The plastic ports can be opened and closed depending on the rider’s desire for increased or decreased air flow.
The helmet chin strap can also be very important. You will want to feel secure in knowing that your strap will not become loose during your ride. If this were to occur, your helmet may not be held to your head during an accident which could result in severe injury. Chin straps may also come with padding which will increase your level of comfort. Some chin straps are difficult to put on, so you will want to be sure to purchase a helmet with a chin strap that is not only strong, but also easy to loop or latch. It may take some practice putting your chin strap on by yourself, so be sure to keep this in mind before you head out for your first ride with you new helmet.
Most motocross helmets come with a carrying bag included. These bags are a very nice feature because they will help protect your helmet from damage during storage.
