Imagine a job in which you had opportunity day after day to enjoy exotic beaches, jet ski, scuba dive, whale watch, shop in remote countries, and relax on the clear crystal sea. Imagine doing all of this while also working, socializing, and living with people from around the world, learning more about various cultures and yourself through the experience. And imagine being paid to work in this atmosphere without having to pay taxes. For some people – those who work on luxury cruise ships – this is more than imagination; it’s reality. Does it sound too good to be true? It’s not. However, before you jump out your office window and run to the nearest cruise line, consider the pros and cons of the luxury cruise world carefully.

Pros –
• You’ll get an opportunity to travel the world to exotic and little-visited destinations.
• You’ll probably develop a very interesting personality and a unique perspective of the world.
• You’ll have a great chance to save money. Not only will you be earning a tax free income, you will also have few, if any, necessary expenses – since your food and board are free.
• You’ll meet many people, make new friends, and interact with countless interesting and exciting individuals.
• You’ll have the possibility of making a career. If you’re interested in rising in the company, cruise employees often move up and make their life with the luxury cruise.
• You’ll have fun. With all kinds of opportunities and experiences waiting, you’ll definitely be able to make memories you’ll never forget.

Cons –
• You’ll be living “on the road.” Actually it’s the sea, but the concept is the same. You’re always moving, always leaving. For some, this rootlessness is more stressful than exciting.
• You’ll live at your job. Many people find that they need the clear line separating their work and their pleasure. Stress is more easily handled for them if they can “go home.” When working on a luxury cruise, you’ll never be able to “leave” your work.
• You’ll always have friends leaving. If separation causes anxiety for you, carefully consider the fact that while you will always be meeting exciting people and sharing life with them, you will also have to say goodbye every few days.
• You’ll be serving. This can be a great thing for many people; however some others begin to feel overwhelmed if they are always being asked to help someone. If customer service isn’t your passion, luxury cruise work may not be for you.

Whatever you choose to do, whether or not you work on a luxury cruise, consider carefully what your motivation is for wanting to work there and whether or not it is for you.
