Are luxury cruises suitable for children?

Luxury cruises have often been thought of as havens for honeymooners and rich retirees, not children. However, this concept is for the most part no longer applicable to luxury cruises. Many families do bring their children on luxury cruises, and the children enjoy it immensely. These luxury ships have youth coordinators who specialize in providing kids with fun, energetic activities from day to night. However, they also offer something of a higher caliber – often a foreign language conversation class or music lessons.

For those considering traveling with the whole family on a luxury cruise, the wisest step is to consider what their goals are for the travel. While luxury cruise liners have some of the finest personalized service, they are not necessarily full of nonstop parties, as some of the mega-cruises are. However, the parents can still get away and enjoy caviar as the younger passengers are learning to decorate cookies, renting movies, and being a part of other unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

Just as on every cruise ship, the managers realize that keeping kids happy and safe is the way to keep parents happy. It is also the way to keep the passengers without kids happy. So, family rooms are available on the ship, and the children’s programs there are surpassed by few others. Many luxury cruises are qualifying as extremely “family friendly.”

Still, there are some luxury cruises that specialize in being “child free” and focus all of their efforts on adults. When planning your trip with kids, be sure to note this and consider only the other cruise lines available.
