Cruise Ship Rescues 28 Cuban Migrants

The unflattering image of cruises as spoiled throngs of geriatrics or rich punks was overturned today as a Carnival-line ship off the coast of Miami deigned to rescue 28 Cubans adrift at sea.

Sadly for the Cubans, it doesn't look like current immigration policy will allow them to stay, as they never officially made it to dry land, and will be repatriated to Cuba and Papa Castro.

Carnival turned all 28 migrants over to the Coast Guard for processing.

Officials said that a cruise ship can sometimes be considered U.S. territory, but it must be a U.S.-flagged ship, meaning that it is registered in the United States and carries that country's flag. However, the Carnival ship that picked up the Cubans is not U.S.-flagged under these requirements.
