Once you know about this devices and how they are made, you’ll know why they are rugged. First, come notebooks, also known as laptops. So the question regarding notebooks is why are they rugged? Think about this:
·        How are they made: Ruggedized computers are just like regular computers, in this case laptops or notebooks. They have standard processors, wireless network capabilities that are usually built-in to the system. They only difference is ruggedized notebooks are covered with protective armor and shock absorbers built on the inside.
·        Shock-proof hard drive: Being that they are used in tough situations, the internal hard drives are mounted in polymer compounds that absorb shock. This protects the drive from harm or danger. This way, if the notebook should fall or be dropped, the hard drive would survive.
·        Water and dust proof: The material the notebook is made of prevents liquid or dust from getting into the notebook by way of cracks. The LCD screen is also protected with an overlay that seals it against moisture or dust.
·        Tough magnesium casing: The casing is made of tough magnesium that prevents the notebook from damage in case of bumps, falls, or knocks of some kind.
·        Readable displays: Unlike some displays that looked washout when outside, these ruggedized computers have displays that are designed to allow viewing while outside.
