The king of all mainframes and now close runner up is IBM. IBM knows servers no matter what kind they are. Here is a list of some of the most popular minicomputers or midrange servers IBM sells:
 
·        IBM eServer P5 570 Express: This is a 2-, 4-, or 8-way symmetric multiprocessing minicomputer or midrange server. It contains 64-bit IBM POWER5 processors for optimum power and response. This minicomputer can come with 2-to 8-core 1.5 GHz POWER5 processors with 2GB to 512GB memory and a 73.4GB to 46.8TB hard drive. For the power it has, it provides a low-cost solution for businesses and enterprises. It has the capacity to upgrade which makes it flexible and adaptable. You can use this machine for virtually anything including database and application serving, e-commerce and server consolidation.
·        IBM System I5 520 Express: This minicomputer (midrange server is designed for small and even large businesses. You can run various applications with this system. It runs I5/OS, Linux, Windows Server, and AIX 5L software. It contains a 32GB of memory and a 39TB hard drive. All these operating systems are built-in to the system. This system also has database and application development tools built-in as well. You also get antivirus system protection that is also built-in. The system includes back up and recovery software that is again built-in. It even includes a built-in web server application if you wish to be a hosting company for domains.
 
Minicomputers or midrange servers as they are now called, offer businesses a lot of power, flexibility, and performance. Only time will tell how far these servers will go.
