There are some basic categories that laptops fit into. The first is the business and productivity notebook. Those that just need the job to get done by using email and an office suite mainly use this notebook. They are going to spend most of their time working with Word or Power Point and surfing the web. This type of laptop is not going to have a lot of bells and whistles, but it will get the basic job done.

The second category of laptops is for people that focus on photos and music. This is taking the laptop a step farther than basic productivity. These notebooks are looking for large storage of memory and a processor speed that gets the music quickly. People even use this type of notebook with sound recording and graphic design. The laptop will also focus on the ability to share, export, and import date from music files and photos, because users want to be able to plug their cameras, MP3 players, and video editing equipment into the computer for use.

The third category of notebooks is home entertainment, even thought they don’t have to be used at home. This computer is probably going to weigh quite a bit more than some of the others due to the amount of equipment located within. These notebooks will provide great picture quality for multi-media presentations, DVD watching, and gaming. There will also be good speakers located within the computer providing quality sound to go along with the video elements.

The fourth category of notebooks is the thin and light section. These laptops are exactly what is said – “Thin and Light.” They weigh 6 lbs or less. You are going to get a small screen, but the largest potential for travel, with this laptop. The only downfall of this computer is that they tend to not be as strong as the home entertainment computers simply because they sacrifice lots of internal components for size and weight.
