Before you decide to go out and buy a desktop computer, you’ll need some information about them. You’ll have to know what is available and what to look for. Here are some tips to help you:

·        CPUs: The best choice for CPUs in a desktop computer would be one with a 3-GHZ Pentium 4 or 2.4-GHZ Athlon XP 4000+ processor. In recent test findings, AMD processors that come at the same clock speed as an Intel processor, perform the same tasks faster.
·        Memory: As was stated above, if you are doing heavy duty tasks beyond the norm you will need memory that is faster than 512MB. But if you are buying the PC just for standard stuff, 512MB will be all you need.
·        Graphics Ports: When looking for a desktop computer, make sure there is a PCI Express slot available. Otherwise, you won’t be able to upgrade your graphics.
·        Monitor: It would be best to buy a 17-inch LCD monitor. Why? Because CRTs are no longer being made. They give off radiation and are a hazard to our environment. Besides, LCD screens provide better resolution than CRTs.
·        DVD-RW: Whether you want to know this or not, floppy drives are no longer being made. They are old and use disks that are unpredictable. Newer desktop computers will come with a DVD-RW instead of a CD-RW. Although, if you choose to you can request to have a CD-RW installed.
