» Computer Repair Overview
Everyone has a computer in their home. They get used for so many different reasons. Each one is designed differently. But the one common ingredient among all computer users is the dreaded blue screen of death. You know the screen that comes up when you suffer a hard drive crash or operating system error. When that happens you need help right away. But you don’t know who to call, unless you have a brother or friend who is in the business and can do it. Otherwise, you will start looking in the Yellow Pages just to find a computer repair guy. The biggest question is who can I trust to repair my computer without ripping me off? Before you answer that, think about this. Computer repair services come in various types. Here are some of the types you will find when looking for a computer repair service:
· Repair Services: There are repair companies that can fix your PC at a reasonable cost. You call them and they come to your door. They usually charge by the hour, unless told otherwise.
· Onsite Repairs: This is where you have to bring the PC into a depot or drop off center for repair. You can expect to wait from three to seven business days to get your PC back. In some cases, these types of centers you’re your PC in their location, and as such, they can charge you more than what they should because you took it there and figure they are legit and professional. At least till you get your large bill.
· Online Services: These types of services are popping up all over the place. If you have a problem with your PC, you either call them or go to their web site. You click on a link to activate some software. They take control of your PC and find the problem. They do some things to your system that you may not know. After that, they tell you to reboot the system, claiming the PC will work normally now. Once you reboot your PC, your connection with them is gone. So you hope your PC works correctly or you will have to go back to the web site and go through the process again, perhaps getting another operator, and ending up explaining things all over again. In the meantime, you paid fro the service ahead of time. So they have their money and you could be stuck with the same or different problem.
· Self-Help: This is where you go to a web site, download a software program, run that program and supposedly that program is supposed to fix the problem. You paid for the download, and perhaps only bought a one-time use license to fix your system. You find your problem is worse because now you have another software program installed on your system that is taking up precious memory.
