Push is on for tougher drunken boating law

These guys want penalties to match rules for DWIs.

I guess I'm on board, considering there aren't a lot of things I'd consider good to do while drinking besides talking to people and then possibly snogging them.

In 2003, Republican Sen. John Flanagan and Democratic Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli collaborated on a bill that dropped the legal blood-alcohol level for boaters from 0.10 to 0.08, the same level as for motorists. The measure was signed into law.

Now the Long Island legislators have joined forces again on a bill that would increase the penalties for those convicted of boating while intoxicated, or BWI, to make them match the penalties for DWI.

The article doesn't go into a lot of details on any other stipulations in the law, such as having drinks out on the boat or drunken boating-passengers, etc. That would manage to cramp a lot of party-barges, if you know what I'm saying.
