For Gary Grandsko, it wasn't easy saying good-bye to Notorious, a 22-foot powerboat he owned for 15 years.

"Trust me, I'm going through withdrawal right now," said the 45-year-old Novi resident, who added that he hopes to fill the void by buying a more fuel-efficient pontoon boat soon. "But I'm still going to miss going 65 miles an hour with my hair on fire."

Grandsko, who works in the automotive industry, is among many doing the math and coming up short.
