Known as The Capital of Europe, Brussels is the headquarters to the European Union and NATO and is also Belgium's capital city. Being over 1,000 years old, Brussels is an international metropolis hosting over 80 museums and a variety of architectural styles. French and Dutch are both the official languages of this city, and street signs are always in both languages.

Things to see:

Grote Markt/Grand Place: Brussels' central market square, Grand Place, has been called the best market square in Europe. The square is surrounded by Renaissance buildings and is home to Brussels' Town Hall. The architecture at Grand Place is exquisite. It's a busy market, filled with shopping and cultural opportunities, and is even more beautiful at night when it is flooded with lights. Don't miss the spectacular light show in the evenings from April to September.

The Atomium: In 1958, this building was constructed for the World Fair. The building's design represents a molecule's nine atoms magnified 165 billion times. The nine spheres of the atom are connected by elevators. Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Brussels from here. The Atomium was recently renovated and reopened in February of 2006.
