A new mom usually savors the first few days at home with her newborn. Her mother, mother-in-law, or close relative or friend is usually there to prepare meals, do the laundry, clean the house and assure the new mom that she is doing a fabulous job. After a few days, the new mom usually "wants her house back" which is generally followed a few days later by an intense desire to get out of the house for a few hours. "Cabin fever" is a normal response for a new mom, but deciding when and how to go out in public with your newborn depends on many factors. Consulting with the baby's pediatrician and careful planning can make going out in public an enjoyable experience.
