Clothes after the Newborn Stage

Because newborns spend so much time sleeping and eating, only a few outfits are necessary for going on excursions out of the home. But as the baby grows, you will find that he or she is rapidly becoming too big for the newborn-sized clothes. In the 3 month-size of clothes, you will still need a good many comfortable and warm sleeping outfits, but you will find yourself actually dressing your infant in daytime outfits more and more. This trend continues as his or her first year progresses. The varying climates will require either clothes for hot weather or cool weather, which also means acquiring hats, gloves and warm socks or swim suits and cool cotton outfits for the warm days. As quickly as most babies grow in their first few months of life, the rate of growth does slow down after the six month mark, making outfits seeming to fit for longer periods of time. Many moms start differentiating between play clothes and "outfits" when babies start crawling and especially, when they are walking. Mobility means a newly acquired talent for getting dirty. If you are at a playground or park and there is mud anywhere to be found, be assured that your child will manage to get some on his or her outfit, no matter how closely you supervise. The same is true for the infant who begins eating finger foods as the first birthday approaches. Cheerios and crackers are pretty benign, but all the wonderful "healthy" foods you want your child to love, such as strawberries, blueberries and tomatoes are not so kind to your child's cute outfits. Hence, the result is the need for "real outfits" and play clothes, and not to mention--plenty of bibs!
