Baby showers are a time to shower the mother-to-be (and father-to- be) with love, encouragement, and lots of practical things she'll need to aid her in the role as a mom. Friends and family members look forward to honoring the mother-to-be and future child with delicious foods, games, laughter and conversation, and of course, gift-giving. In some parts of the world, hosting a shower before the baby is born is considered bad luck. However, this is the traditional way in most western cultures. In general, the overall trend in showers is becoming less determined by the so-called rules of etiquette and are becoming more influenced by the fact that family and friends desire to get together and share a fun time together with the prospective mom or parents: for example, showers use to be given just for the first baby born into a family, but now, each child is usually given a shower. Also, baby showers use to be a women's-only event shared with close friends; nowadays, couples baby showers are growing in popularity, and instead of being an afternoon event with finger foods, guests are enjoying a full-fledged dinner party. And why not? Babies are a wonderful thing to celebrate!
