Maybe it hasn't happened to you yet, but it very well could. You're driving home alone on a dark country road. It's two in the morning and suddenly something goes wrong. Controlling your vehicle suddenly becomes very hard, but you eventually get it to the side of the road. You get out of your car and see that the front passenger tire is flat. You remember the guy you bought the car from mentioned it didn't have a spare.

You maybe lucky enough to be an Auto Club member or have your cell phone on you. You might even have OnStar which is the push of a button away. However these easy fixes don't always work, and if you don't have any of these technological safety nets, you're really in trouble: Unless, of course, you've planned ahead and stuck a well-made emergency roadside kit in the trunk of your car.

If you have a long commute or are going on a road trip, the small kit in the corner of your trunk could make the difference between getting safely back on the road or being stuck - possibly in a dangerous place - for a long period of time. Every vehicle should have an emergency kit with basic items.

Before you actually use your kit in an emergency situation, take some time to familiarize yourself with the items you've collected and how to use them properly. Also remember that the most important item is your own good judgment - stopping to change a tire in the high-speed lane is only an accident waiting to happen.
