Although the most direct result of the high gas prices is to Americans purchasing it for vehicles, just about anything you can think of that requires gas to operate or be produced will also have to raise its prices. It's becoming more expensive to ship products by truck, to fly in airplanes, and to drive big vehicles. Americans will have to consider this when purchasing vehicles or making travel plans. The price of gas does not, however, have a direct result on inflation. This is because economists measure the cost of goods that rise at a stable rate, rather than products such as gas or food whose value can increase or decrease based on weather, labor strikes, or wars.
