Anyone who has ever had to drive in fog knows that it can be one of the most difficult driving conditions there is. Fog is extremely dangerous because if interferes with visibility and makes drivers vision of the road and their surrounding significantly impaired. For those drivers who find themselves braving their way through fog it is imperative they remember the following tips:

• Slow down your speed. This is as much for your safety as it is for the safety of other drivers.
• Use your low beam headlights instead of your high beams. The high beams will reflect off the moisture in the fog and make it even harder to see.
• If your vehicle comes equipped with fog lights turn them on in addition to your low beam headlights.
• Pay attention to the makings on the road and use them as a guide. The right side of the road rather than the center line is best.
• Don't follow the car in front of you closely even if their taillights are serving as a guide. It is important to ensure enough room for sudden stops.
• Reduce any distractions such as a cell phone or radio in order to better concentrate on the road conditions.
• Make sure windows stay clean and clear, turn on your defroster and windshield wipers to get rid of excess moisture.
• NEVER stop your vehicle in the road or close to the road in foggy conditions.
• Be patient and avoid passing other vehicles.
• Even if you come to an area where the fog appears to have lifted DO NOT increase your speed. Fog is very patchy and you could be right back in thick fog just as quickly as you thought you were out of it.
