The country of Austria is filled with cities that are not only beautiful but also overflowing with historical significance and cultural opportunities. Many are known for their great skiing, while others have made their place in the world because of their music or other attributes. In any case, most cities in Austria would make wonderful tourist stops even if only for a few hours because of their rich customs and heritage.
Austria is divided into nine provinces: Burgenland, Kärnten (Carinthia), Niederösterreich (Lower Austria), Oberösterreich (Upper Austria), Salzburg Land, Steiermark (Styria), Tirol (Tyrol), Vorarlburg, and Wien (Vienna). Interestingly, many of the country’s most prominent cities are either provinces themselves or the capitals of these provinces. These major cities are also the most popular tourist destinations in Austria and the homes of the majority of the Austrian population. They include Vienna, Salzburg, Graz, Innsbruck, Linz, and Bregenz.
