The city of Melbourne has an extremely diverse population. Records indicate that somewhere around a quarter of the city’s population was born outside of the Australian continent. The city is home to residents that hail from over 233 countries. The immigrant population in Melbourne is made up of German, Arab, African, Italian, British, Pilipino, Vietnamese, and Cambodian immigrants just to name a few. There are also a large number of Jewish immigrants moving into the city. Many Australians are also making the move to Melbourne due to the lower cost of living as opposed to that in other areas of the continent such as Sydney.
Melbourne is large urban metropolis. Initially in the years following World War II a lot of the growth in the city was seen in the outskirts of town in the suburbs. However since the revitalization of the city in the 1990’s Melbourne has seen several high rise apartment buildings go up bringing about an urban vibe to the city.
