You wouldn’t fly all the way to Australia and not see the Opera House, would you? You’ve probably seen it from the outside already, but that’s only half of the experience. Taking a tour of the inside of this famous building is almost a rite of passage for tourists.
Guided Tour – This tour will take you through the history and architecture of the building. See what goes on inside and get a short overview of the current performances. The one hour tour starts every half hour between 9 am and 5 pm and includes a complimentary soft drink, tea or coffee.
Cost is $23 for adults; $16 for Australian seniors, students and adults; and $63.25 for families (two adults with two children under 16).
There is also a private tour available for one to 18 people. The cost for this tour is $432. One note, there are around 200 steps to climb on this tour.
For those who want to see even more, there is a backstage tour that lets you see the view from center stage. See the Concert Hall stage from the conductor’s viewpoint and then make your way up on to the stage. In the Opera Theatre, you’ll go into the orchestra pit and up on stage here as well. You’ll be able to go inside the scenery dock and the star’s dressing rooms.
Only a maximum of eight people can take the exclusive Backstage Tour. It takes two hours and includes a light breakfast in the Greenroom – home to performers and staff. The tour starts at 7am before the working day begins. Cost is $140 per person and must be scheduled in advance.
