Day Four - Melbourne

Melbourne, the capital of Victoria and a cultural hub, is known for fashion, food, entertainment and sport. This is a city of style, architecture, trams, theatres and art. Rattling trams, parklands singing with blackbirds, stately architecture and palm trees – it's like northern Europe on the Mediterranean.

The influence of decades of immigration from all over the world has made Melbourne a paradise for those who love food and wine. Whole streets are dedicated to food, be it Indian, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Greek, or a host of other styles. There is also a host of world-class wines.

Melbourne is home to the Melbourne Cup, tennis’ Australian Open and the Qantas Australia Grand Prix. As for the biggest names from the music world, as well as major theatrical productions, it's most likely you'll see them in Melbourne first. Both premier performing-arts establishments and art galleries are well represented in Melbourne. Several major venues act as focal points for the city's social and cultural scene, while world-class collections of art from all over the globe are represented in public and private galleries.
