Little Rock is Arkansas’ capital and largest city. Over 400,000 people call the metropolitan area of Little Rock home. Little Rock contains numerous attractions including the River Market, Little Rock Zoo, numerous museums, well known restaurants, and the Arkansas River. There are 50 schools in the Little Rock school district with 26,101 students and 2,029 teachers. There are 20 schools in the North Little Rock School District with 8,907 students and 600 teachers. Average pay for teachers is $33,000 in North Little Rock and $34,834 in Little Rock.

West Little Rock: Pleasant Valley is the typical upper class Little Rock neighborhood. Pleasant Valley has country clubs, golf courses, and mostly modern homes. Hickory Creek is located near Pleasant Valley and has the same kind of housing and feel. West Little Rock has seen much growth over the past few years, especially in the Chenal area. Also located in West Little Rock is Otter Creek. These neighborhoods have gated security, a racquet club, swimming pools, nature trails, playgrounds, and an elementary school.

Downtown/Midtown: There is very little housing around this area of Little Rock. However, there are apartments and lofts available for rent and lease in the River Market district. Hillcrest is located west of downtown Little Rock, along Markham Street. The Hillcrest neighborhood is said to be Little Rock's oldest neighborhood, and contains some of the city’s most beautiful turn of the century homes and cottages. The Heights contains smaller cottages and homes and is known as a very peaceful neighborhood. Riverdale has apartments, condos and luxurious modern housing. It has beautiful views of the Arkansas River and is located just miles from downtown Little Rock. University Park is a neighborhood that contains very nice newer homes, all of which are located very close to the city’s malls.

North Little Rock: North Little Rock has many neighborhoods including Lakewood, near McCain Mall. Lakewood was constructed around several man-made lakes and includes some of the city's nicest homes. Park Hill is a historic neighborhood that dates back to the World War II era. Mabelvale is noted for its great schools. Mabelvale is situated on the outskirts of Southwest Little Rock and is a more country neighborhood than other areas and boasts a quieter way of life.

Suburbs: Many people choose to commute from Conway, which is just about 30 minutes from Little Rock. Conway is a sort of college town with all types of neighborhoods and housing within its limits. Maumelle is just across the river from Little Rock, and can also be considered a suburb. Maumelle has numerous parks, trails, lakes, recreation centers, golf courses, a community center and many shopping and dining opportunities that are easily accessible. Maumelle is a very popular location for families. East End is in Saline County and has its own school district. Although it is about 30-40 minutes from Little Rock, it is perfect for people who want to live in a more rural setting, without being too far from Little Rock. Many people choose to commute from Sherwood. It's only about 10 miles from Little Rock and you can find reasonable housing and a small town feel there.
