Arkansas’ many lakes, streams, rivers, mountains, and other natural wonders are great sources of enjoyment for travelers. Arkansas is well known for its great outdoors as well as its fishing and hunting opportunities. Historic towns and cities also draw many visitors to their annual festivals and attractions. Almost everywhere that there is an attraction there is a RV site or campground for the expected vacationers. Twenty-six of Arkansas’ 51 State Parks have RV sites and campgrounds with partial and full hook-ups of water and electric, picnic tables, and grills. Each of the 26 campgrounds offers a modern bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers. Dump stations are located at most locations. Barrier-free campsites and bathhouses are also available. Prices range from $10 to $28 in Arkansas State Parks. There are more than 200 publicly owned campgrounds in Arkansas. There are 2 National Parks, 3 National Forests, 3 National Wildlife Refuges, 28 State parks, as well as private or municipal sites near 88 Arkansas towns, all with numerous campsites. Most are maintained campsites with running water and restrooms. However there are some more rustic, primitive sites, particularly in the National Forests, that have no water or facilities. In the Ozarks, camp along the scenic Buffalo River or stay in a cabin at the Buffalo Outdoors Center. In the Ouachitas, camp on Rich Mountain in Queen Wilhelmina State Park. Visit the Arkansas Native Plant and Wildlife Center or just hike one of the four trails atop Arkansas’ second highest mountain. Pitch your tent at one of the primitive campsites at the White River National Wildlife Refuge in the Delta or at the Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge in the Timberlands. Recreational activities at these campgrounds include wildlife observation, fishing, and hunting. No matter how you choose to stay while in the Natural State, you are sure to be pleased with the accommodations it has to offer.
