In the early years people mainly made a living in Phoenix through agriculture. In the past 20 years however with the boom in residential growth the economy has become more diversified in the area. Being the state capitol there are a large number of residents employed by the government and Arizona State University also employees a large number of people in several different facets. Phoenix has also become home to several high tech and telecommunications companies. Golf and warm weather have also secured tourism as a large part of the local economy. Luke Air Force Base is also located in Phoenix as well as Fortune 500 companies like Avnet, Inc. and Phelps Dodge Corporation. Hollywood also accounts for a portion of the economy in Phoenix. The city is regularly used as the filming location for movies and television. Movies filmed that have filmed in the area include: Jerry McGuire, Psycho, Waiting to Exhale, Bad Santa, Raising Arizona, and The Banger Sisters.
