Buenos Aires has the chief port location for Argentina and it provides the largest industry in terms of financial, social, industrial and commercial sectors.

With the region being linked to neighbouring regions such as Paraguay and Brazil, goods are transported by an excellent inland river channel and it has made a vast importing and exporting outlet of the city. Due to the vital requirements of the port, it has resulted in the locals naming themselves portenos (people of the port).

As it is the biggest industrialized city today, it is a major food processing centre which includes flour mill, meatpacking but with other industries leading the country, there is also a major market for textile producing, tobacco products, oil refinement and this resulted in more factories moving to the suburbs in the 80’s and 90’s.
