The culture of Argentina is extremely varied and has been significantly influenced by its immigrant population, which is mostly European. These European influences can be found everywhere in Argentina. Their impact was a factor in the ruin of pre-Columbian cultures, with the ending consequence being a deficiency of a forceful indigenous population. The European immigrant groups each took on their own individual roles. The Italians and Germans set up farms, the British devoted themselves to expanding the country’s infra- structure, and the Irish and Basque dominated in sheep rearing.
These European influences saturate Argentina’s architecture, literature, art, and lifestyle. The city of Buenos Aires is a true testimony to the European influence of this country, and is the most European city in South America. As many Argentines have been educated in Europe, the city of Buenos Aires has self-consciously imitated European cultural movements in architecture, music, and art. The benefit of this has been numerous developments of prestigious galleries and art museums within the city, along with a dynamic theater community.
