The trade show is designed to give businesses an opportunity to get their product and message out. However, the trade show booth and graphics are what draws an individual in so the company representative can make that all-important human contact. At no other time will so many potential customers all be in one place, with a mindset to buy. Because they are there, it is evident they are interested in your product or one like it. The purpose of the booth is to draw them in so the representatives can speak with them personally, discover what they are looking for, and hopefully, sell them on what your company is offering.
Selling is the main goal of a trade show booth, but the booth also creates an avenue whereby your clients can come by, talk a minute or two, and strengthen the relationship between them and your company. This contact is good for both of you. Knowing you value their patronage strengthens their loyalty to you. Similarly, you know they value your product and service when they take the time to stop by to see what you are offering. Repeat business is strengthened in so many ways during a trade show.
One way the trade show is beneficial to small businesses is that the show helps level the playing field for them when their main competition is a larger, better-funded company. Trade show booths cost the same per square foot no matter how large the company and it is usually a very affordable rate, even for smaller companies. Booth space is typically sold in standard sizes and each company rents space that is similar in size to all the other booths. This takes the focus away from the size of the company and places it back where it belongs….on the products and services offered.
