Hang gliding is a world wide sport enjoyed by millions that was initially created by a NASA scientist in the 60’s while searching for a means of returning space craft safely back to the earth. This recreational activity is voluntarily regulated in the US by the USHGA or the United States Hang Gliding Association. While there are significant risks to this sport, safety is a number one priority to keep hang gliding fun for all of those whom participate. Hang gliding flight records have astonishingly produced flights as high as 18,000 ft., as long as 300 miles and lasting for over 36 hours.
