» What should I look for in a Forensic Accountant?
A forensic accountant should have the unique education and training needed, plus the following:
· Has the ability to respond immediately and communicate financial information clearly and concisely.
· Has the ability to utilize computer forensics and other computer technology.
· Has experience in performing a wide variety of fraud, internal, and outside investigations.
· Is dedicated to research and fact-gathering
· Has experience in litigation situations.
· Tries to initially resolve disputes amicably.
· Has courtroom experience as an expert witness.
· Is familiar with legal concepts and procedures.
Forensic accountants should have at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting, and may have additional degrees like criminal justice or law enforcement. Credentials such as
CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), and CrFA (Certified Forensic Accountant) may be required for advanced practice. Usually several years of on-the-job experience is required.
